How to describe Nomapay

Short description

43 words

Nomapay lets anyone with a phone number hold US dollars, send them free to any phone number in any country, and cash out to a bank or mobile money. Only the account owner can move their money, approved with their face or fingerprint.

Long description

177 words

Nomapay is an app that lets anyone with a phone number hold, send and receive US dollars. People pay each other by phone number, in any country, and sending is free. Money sent to someone who is not on Nomapay yet waits for them, and comes back to the sender if it is not claimed within 7 days.

Balances are held in digital dollars, in an account that only the customer controls. Every payment is approved with a passkey, unlocked by the customer's face or fingerprint, and Nomapay has no key to customers' accounts. A stolen SIM is not enough to move money, large transfers and account changes wait and can be cancelled, and recovery needs two independent guardians.

Customers can pay airtime, data, electricity and TV bills from their dollar balance, and cash out to a bank or mobile money, with the rate and fee shown before they confirm. Cash-out, bills and buying dollars start in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, processed by licensed payment partners. Nomapay is designed to work on basic phones too, by USSD.

  • Write Nomapay as one word, with a capital N.
  • The one-line promise: Dollars, by phone number.
  • Nomapay is a financial technology company, not a bank.

The facts

Every one of these is true of the product as built. Please only state facts from this list. We have no user numbers or audits to announce yet.

Accounts and safety

  • Sign-up uses a phone number, a text (or WhatsApp) code, a name and a passkey (face or fingerprint). No seed phrase.
  • Only the passkey can approve payments on a smartphone account. Nomapay has no key to customers' accounts.
  • The app checks every payment before the customer approves it.
  • Large transfers wait (6 hours in the app, 24 hours on basic phones) and can be cancelled. Account changes wait 48 to 72 hours.
  • A 24-hour safety window follows a new-phone sign-in, a PIN reset or a recovery (1 hour with a second factor).
  • Recovery needs two independent guardians, plus a 72-hour wait that can be cancelled.

Sending and receiving

  • Sending to any phone number, in any country, is free.
  • Nomapay to Nomapay arrives in seconds.
  • Money sent to someone not on Nomapay waits for them. If it is not claimed in 7 days, the sender can take it back.
  • Dollars from 15 networks, plus Solana USDC, Tron USDT and BNB Chain, are moved into the balance automatically. Bitcoin receiving is not available at launch.

Cash-out and bills

  • Cash-out to a bank (Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana) and to mobile money (Kenya, Ghana), through licensed payment partners. The fee and rate are shown before confirming.
  • Bills (airtime, data, electricity, TV) are bought only after the payment confirms, and refunded automatically if they fail.
  • Basic phones use USSD and a PIN, with text receipts. Three wrong PINs lock it for 1 hour.

Fees

  • Sending: free. Receiving and holding: free.
  • Cash-out: 1% + the rate shown. Bills: 1% + the rate shown.
  • Every fee is shown on its own line before the customer confirms.
