Dollars on any phone. No internet, no app.

A real dollar account on a phone with buttons: a short code, a PIN and a text receipt for everything. Coming soon.

  1. Chidi sends $50 to her number
  2. It crosses in seconds
  3. Her basic phone gets a text
  4. She dials and sees $50.00
Her story

Meet Mama Ngozi.

She sells foodstuffs at the market in Enugu. Her phone has buttons, no internet and no apps. Her son Chidi works in Lagos and wants to send her money that keeps its value and reaches her safely.

On a smartphone, Nomapay protects money with a face or fingerprint. Her phone can’t do that. So on a basic phone, she owns and controls a dollar account with button presses, a PIN and text messages, and the protections work around her.

Her first week

Day by day, on her phone.

What she sees, and what it means for her.

Day 1

She signs up

Her son Chidi tells her the short code. She dials it, types her name and chooses a PIN, twice. Easy ones like 1234 or 1111 are refused.

  • Her phone number becomes her account, like an account number.
  • A dollar account is created for her, with low limits while she’s new.
  • No internet, no app, and no sign-in code to type: her number comes from her network.
Day 2

Money arrives

Chidi opens Nomapay on his smartphone in Lagos and sends $50 to her number. Her phone buzzes with a text.

  • Her money is held in dollars, so it keeps its value.
  • If she hadn’t signed up yet, the $50 would wait for her number until she did.
  • If nobody claims it within 7 days, Chidi can take it back.
Day 3

She checks her balance

She dials the code and presses 1.

  • Her balance, in dollars, any time.
  • If the network is slow, it says “We’ll send it by SMS”, and the text arrives a few seconds later.
Day 4

She buys airtime

She presses 3, then 1 for her own number, and types 500. She confirms, then types her PIN.

  • For her own number, or someone else’s.
  • The price and the fee are on the screen before she confirms.
  • A text receipt, every time.
Day 5

She pays her supplier

She owes Emeka, her rice supplier, $20. She presses 2, types his number and 20. She checks the name: it really is Emeka.

  • The amount, the confirm and the PIN are always separate screens, so typing 200 instead of 20 can’t slip through.
  • Every payment is re-checked against exactly what she confirmed before it goes.
  • If Emeka isn’t on Nomapay yet, his $20 waits for his number, and a text tells him how to collect it.
Day 90

She gets a smartphone

Chidi buys her an Android phone. She installs Nomapay, signs in with her number and a code, and sets up her fingerprint.

  • After a 72-hour safety wait, only her fingerprint controls the account.
  • She gets a text when the wait starts and when it ends, so a fraudster couldn’t do it quietly.
  • Same account, same balance, same history, same number. People who pay her notice nothing.
Why three steps

The amount. The confirm. The PIN.

Always three separate screens, so a slip of the thumb never costs her money.

  1. Amount in $?200

    1. She types the amountHer thumb slips: 200, not 20.
  2. Send $200.00 to

    2. A screen of its ownShe sees $200.00, spots it, and presses 2 to cancel.
  3. Enter your PIN••••

    3. Then, and only then, her PINNothing moves without it.
When something goes wrong

Built for the bad days, too.

A thief steals her phone

They don’t know her PIN. Three wrong tries lock the account for an hour; ten lock it until she resets it with her ID. She gets a text.

Someone swaps her SIM

Her number alone can’t spend money. If her PIN is reset, a 24-hour restricted window starts: only receiving and small sends work, and she gets texts.

Someone tries to empty her account

Her daily limit is low, so a big payment waits 24 hours instead of going. She gets a text, replies STOP with its code, and the money never moves. The wait is built into her account itself, so nobody can skip it.

How we protect phone numbers

The pieces, in plain words.

  • The short codeNomapay with no internet and no app.
  • Her PINProves it’s her giving the instruction.
  • A separate confirm screenStops typing mistakes.
  • Checked twiceEvery payment is re-checked against exactly what she confirmed.
  • Big payments waitSmall amounts move quickly; big ones wait 24 hours and can be stopped.
  • Texts for everythingA receipt for every payment, alerts, and STOP to cancel.
  • Money can wait for herPeople can pay her number before she has even signed up.
  • The move to the appHer fingerprint takes over later, with the same account.

Is it available yet?

Not yet. Nomapay is designed to work on basic phones, and the short code for each country will be listed on this page when it goes live. Until then, we will never ask you to dial a Nomapay code.

Do I need the internet or an app?

No. Any phone that can dial a short code and receive texts works: no internet, no app.

Will Nomapay ever ask for my PIN?

Never. Do not share your PIN with anyone, including anyone who says they are from Nomapay.

What if I type the wrong PIN?

After three wrong tries, your account is locked for 1 hour. After ten, it stays locked until you reset it with your ID. You get a text alert either way.

What if my phone is stolen?

A thief still needs your PIN. Wrong guesses lock the account, and large payments wait 24 hours with a text that lets you cancel them.

What if someone moves my number to their SIM?

Your number alone can’t spend your money: they still need your PIN. If a PIN is reset, a 24-hour restricted window starts, where only receiving and small sends work, and you get texts.

Can I move to the app later?

Yes. Set up your fingerprint or face in the app, and after a 72-hour safety wait your account switches to it. You keep the same account, balance and history.
