Words we use

A plain-English glossary of the words you will see in Nomapay, from account and guardian to queued and safety window.

The words you will meet in the app, in plain English.

Your account

  • Account: your own digital-dollar account. Only you control it.
  • Your key (passkey): the key in your phone's secure chip, unlocked by your face or fingerprint. Only it can approve your payments.
  • Phone number: who you are on Nomapay, and how people pay you. It is an identity, not a key.
  • @name: an optional short name people can pay instead of your number.
  • Guardian: a party whose approval is needed to recover your account. Two are needed, and Nomapay can never recover an account alone.
  • Identity level: how much identity you have verified, which sets your limits.

Money

  • Digital dollars (USDC, USDT): US dollars in digital form, issued by third parties. The app shows them as one dollar balance.
  • Waiting money: money sent to a phone number that isn't on Nomapay yet. It waits until the owner of that number collects it, or comes back to the sender.
  • Licensed payment partner: the company that converts dollars to local money for cash-outs, bills and buying dollars.
  • Network: a blockchain the dollars can travel on. You only meet these when receiving from an exchange.
  • Swap network: a decentralised service that converts between tokens on different networks.

Safety

  • Queued: a large transfer or account change waiting its safety period. It can be cancelled.
  • Safety window: the first 24 hours after a new sign-in, when risky actions are paused.
  • USSD: phone menus you dial with a short code, on any phone.
